PROJECT OBJECTIVES<\/h3>\n

Development of a basalt-made textile product prototype able to provide an optimal thermal insulation. The developed product is composed of multiple layers and can be coupled, so as to obtain insulating products with the desired performance.<\/p>\n

ABSTRACT<\/h3>\n

The project is based on the use of basalt, an effusive rock of volcanic origin with excellent thermal and sound insulation properties, which is chemically very stable and keeps its proper- ties at high and low temperatures.<\/p>\n

Originally developed during the NAVALTEX project, MCA project was focused on the development of a basalt felt coupled to a fabric made of basalt through a bonding process. This product can be used as fire barrier in buildings and industrial installations. The product is assembled in multiple layers, also quilted, in order to obtain the desired insulation performances by modulating the number of layers, while maintaining lightness, flexibility and reduced thickness.<\/p>\n

By using the procedure developed in this project it is possible to control the performance of the product and to ensure the healthiness of process and product, which is also fully recyclable.<\/p>\n

The first tangible result of the MCA project is the commercialization of the first product developed, which owns a CE certificate, a registered trademark and is currently available on the market.<\/p>\n
